April Awareness Raising Event

Thu 11th Apr 2019

The Peers HSE department arranged for Nationwide Platforms to attend site with their virtual reality (VR) MEWP simulator. The VR machine allows operators to work through complex scenarios, replicating real-life training hazards without any risk to the operator.

It also allows operators to make mistakes in a safe and controlled environment which not only prepares them for how to react to danger, but also provides them with valuable experience that will hopefully help to reduce the number of accidents on site.

The VR unit comprised a replica access platform basket and control panel, as well as a full motion tracking headset and actuator motion base that mimics the sensations of operating a boom machine or scissor lift. With such a small footprint, the unit was easily transferred from delivery vehicle to the induction room and took a matter of minutes to set up.

The session was attended by over 30 members of the Mensa workforce, from various disciplines and backgrounds ranging from site operators, to office staff, to the TMS nurses.

Peers were delighted to receive excellent feedback from all who took part and considered the day to be a success!
