Good luck Chris

Tue 14th Nov 2017

Design Manager Chris Achilles is off to the Austrian capital of Vienna this week in his newly appointed role as England Team member representing his country in the world of international billiards.

Not content with being a much respected Structural Engineer during the week and successful billiards player on the amateur circuit at the weekend, Chris made the decision at the beginning of last year's season to aim for a place on the National Team, as this was his late Father's wish.

Chris knew that victory would come at a price and that was devoting many weekends driving the length of the country from Leeds to Portsmouth and every town in between, taking part in over 30 matches to gain every precious point he possibly could. Successful players were required to score over 90 points to reach the top 8 with over 100 players in competition.

After 9 months of intensive competition, Chris' final score was 125 points, securing him second place official ranking in the country and one place behind world ranked number 3 player Rob Hall.

Chris finished ahead of many of the country's best players - not bad for a part timer in his first full year of competition!

This summer, Chris' dream came true when he finally received the official letter from the English Amateur Billiards Association (EABA) confirming that he had been selected to play for his country.

First stop in his new official capacity, is the 4 Nations Trophy in Vienna, a 2 day event whereby England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Austria all compete to score the most points and secure the much coveted trophy.

Chris and his England Team mates will be hoping to win the trophy back from the current holders, Republic of Ireland.

Following Vienna, there's no chance of a rest as the New Year brings more responsibility when Chris will be attending the 'Friendly Cup' in Belfast in January.

Many congratulations Chris from all at Harry Peers and the very best of luck for Vienna. Oh and it would be nice if you could pop into work at some point too!
