Highly Commended Peers!

Wed 13th Nov 2013

Harry Peers were delighted to receive an award at the recent Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Estate Supply Chain Awards 2013 for Best example of innovation by an SME.

Harry Peers received a highly commended for their Temporary Construction Access Openings (TCAO) submission. Chris Achilles, head of Peers’ Design Team explained that Peers were challenged with providing temporary weather protection to 5 large cell rooms during the construction process. The covers needed to be easily taken down and reinstated to allow for multiple key kit installation dates with extremely tight time slots. 10 different solutions were investigated ranging from cladding panels to roller shutter doors and roman blinds. The final design was similar to that seen on the side of a conventional side loading wagon but using much more heavy duty materials. The event, which is in its third successful year is organised jointly by the NDA and its Site Licence Companies with the key goal of promoting opportunities for suppliers, and for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), in particular. The event was held in Manchester on Wednesday 13th November and was attended by 1300 people from over 200 businesses.
