Highly Commended

Fri 1st Sep 2017

Congratulations to Design Engineer Paul Airey who has received a Highly Commended from the Design Best Practice (DBP) 2017 Awards.

Paul's submission was titled 'Reducing hand-arm vibration exposure in steelwork fabrication' and discussed the main causes and symptoms of this painful condition and more importantly how we as a Company have implemented practices to reduce or remove the main cause of grinding.

Examples of the latter include the fact that all steelwork is now purchased pre-shot blasted which prevents the need to grind areas clear of rust or mill scale prior to welding, plus the overall usage time of grinders has been reduced and the remaining time is closely monitored.  See the Design Best Practice website for the full article www.dbp.org.uk

HAVS is a serious and disabling condition with symptoms including severe pain and numbness, loss of sense of touch and loss of grip strength. While it may be preventable, once the damage is done, it is permanent.

Paul's winning submission was praised for its innovative approach and focus on safety and prevention.

Well done Paul and congratulations on your award.
