Peers a-RISE as winners!

Thu 13th Mar 2014

Harry Peers Steelwork are celebrating after receiving a double award from ECIA. The first is a highly commended RISE (Recognising Inititive in Safety Excellence) award for an individual contribution by Chris Achilles, Design Manager at Harry Peers.  The second is a Safe Working Award in recognition of our safety record during 2013.

Chris Achilles is the leader of Peers award winning Design Team with 30 years experience in the steelwork industry. Chris is consistently at the forefront of promoting health & safety in design, which has now officially been recognised.

Chris' motto is 'build easily and safely' and modularise wherever possible. Constructing offsite and involving minumum numbers of people reduces the risk of accidents, an ideal that is encouraged by Bernice Peers, Health & Safety Advisor.

Chris, who has produced designs which include reducing working at height and reducing hand arm vibration, has been an active member of Design Best Practice (DBP) for 10 years. The DBP website has recently received an excellent endorsement from the HSE for promoting safety in design. Chris' Design Team have won many awards from DBP including for the best submission with the Trailer Access Platform Initiative and also for their Modular Piperack case study. Please see for further details.

Last November, Chris also received a highly commended at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Estate Supply Chain Awards 2013 for Best example of innovation by an SME for his Temporary Construction Access Openings submission.

Whether he is highlighting new Codes of Practice or acting as a point of contact for advice regarding designing innovatively but safely, Chris is well known for his extensive knowledge and dedication to all aspects of designing and constructing on site safely. He is a highly motivated and dedicated professional who constantly challenges the status quo, seeking new innovative ways to improve what we do and how we do it.

Harry Peers are delighted to have been recognised once again for our commitment to achieving the highest standards in Health and Safety.

Many congratulations to both Chris and Bernice for this latest success and for their continued dedication to ensure Harry Peers Steelwork are at the forefront of health and safety excellence.
